MINIATURE POSITION SENSORS FOR LIGHTWEIGHT,
SENSITIVE DEVICES A series of Miniature High Reliability LVDT position sensors suitable for mounting in tight spaces has been introduced by Measurement Specialties. The Schaevitz MHR Linear Variable Differential Transformers are designed for applications where excessive core weight could influence the motion of sensitive mechanisms. The high sensitivity devices provide position sensing for critical applications such as helicopters, power generation, rail, materials testing, banknote verification and other industrial applications. Designed for harsh conditions, they have an operating temperature range of –55° - 150°C and withstand shocks to 1,000 g for up to 11 msec. The high density glass-filled polymer coil form minimizes thermal induced stresses and preserves the structural integrity of the coil assembly. Electromagnetic and electrostatic shielding is provided by the magnetic AISI 400 stainless steel housing. The MHR family of LVDT’s operates over a 2 to 20 Khz range and exhibits vibration tolerance from 20 g to 2 Khz. Linearity varies as a percent of full scale (±0.10% to ±0.75%) with ranges form ±0.005 to ±1 inch. All units are compatible with Schaevitz signal conditioners and shipped with a calibration certificate. Application-specific options include temperature operation to 220°C, high pressure with vented case, 5.0 and 10.0 kHz excitation frequency testing and metric thread core. Measurement Specialties, Inc., designs and manufactures a wide variety of sensors and transducers to measure precise ranges of physical characteristics including pressure, force, vibration, position, humidity and temperature.
