New ALAR series from Aerotech has non-contact drive that eliminates wear
A direct-drive rotary stage with extremely large aperture and high load capacity provides higher speed and accuracy than similarly sized worm-drive stages. Featuring smooth non-contact drive, the ALAR series from Aerotech eliminates the wear that is inherent in gear-drive stages. The resulting lower maintenance and longer life combine to give the ALAR a lower life-cycle cost.
The stages are available in five aperture sizes: 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm and 325 mm, with axial load capacity up to 595 kg. Operating speed of 45-300 rpm is significantly higher than gear-drive stages of comparable size. This allows testing to be completed in less time.
Applications
The ALAR stages are designed for a wide range of precision rotary
positioning applications including testing of single and multi-axis
electro-optic sensors, missile seekers, antennas and inertial
navigation devices. They are used in photonics, laser machining,
defense,
semiconductor wafer inspection and many other industries. The
stages can be configured
as multi-axis gimbals. Models are available for vacuum testing
to 10-6 torr.
Angular contact bearings maximize performance with respect to tilt error, moment stiffness and rotating friction. The ALAR works especially well in applications that require 360° continuous motion but have limited space. The stage is 65-160 mm tall and provides smooth motion without travel restrictions.
The motor has no brushes to wear, no gear trains to maintain, high acceleration and high speeds. Since it is a slotless, ironless design, there is zero cogging, which eliminates torque ripple.
